The real impact of the Good Business Fund

Introduction

Just Enough Brave and Altitude Design are Plymouth-based brand and marketing communications agencies that put community impact right at the heart of everything they do. Together we believe a communications agencies shouldn’t just create great work; it should do good, too.

As one of only two creative agencies in Plymouth with B-Corp certification, we meet rigorous standards for social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. The certification matters, but it’s not the whole story. What really counts is the difference our work makes for organisations improving lives across the region.

The Good Business Fund: Collaboration for Change

The Good Business Fund is a charitable initiative where we pool our skills and offer pro-bono strategic and creative support to charities and social enterprises. It’s pretty straightforward: we share our knowledge and expertise, so more organisations can benefit, and communities can see a bigger impact from the work they do.

Launched in 2024, the Fund gives charities access to strategic and creative expertise. Each year, we commit £15,000 worth of free communications support. Since it began, more than £45,000 worth of professional time has been donated to organisations that would otherwise struggle to access high-level marketing help. We focus on offering the foundations that can help charities grow: brand development, digital strategy and communications planning. Get those right, and charities can deliver greater impact.

2024 - Memory Matters and Moments Café

One standout benefactor of the fund was the Plymouth social enterprise Memory Matters, which supports people living with dementia and their families. Before the project, the organisation faced a familiar challenge: its brand felt dated and its community café, Moments, wasn’t attracting the footfall it needed. The Memory Matters Hub and café are dementia-friendly spaces where families and carers can meet and feel supported, but many people didn’t know it existed.

Through the fund, we implemented a new brand identity, helped improved the café environment and created a new website. The results were quick to materialise. Footfall increased by 21% within six months, and in a challenging retail climate during Plymouth’s city centre redevelopment, that growth matters. Café profits also rose by 7%, and every pound of profit earned has gone back into dementia support services. Today, Memory Matters and Moments Cafe are even busier community hubs where families and carers connect and access help earlier.

Path Housing Branded literature

2025 - Record-Breaking Impact for Path Housing

Another outstanding example of the Fund in action is Path Housing, a Plymouth charity tackling homelessness. Path provides vital services but previously lacked a clear brand to engage supporters. In 2025, we worked with the team on market research, a new identity and a refreshed website.

The impact of the work has already been significant. Path’s 2025 Winter Appeal originally aimed to raise £10,000, and this was smashed!  After the rebrand and improved visibility, donations increased by 257%, setting a fundraising record.  That money has gone directly to support services for people experiencing homelessness. We are delighted that the Fund has helped strengthen the organisation’s future stability.

National Reach and Continued Growth of the Good Business Fund

The Fund also reaches beyond Plymouth. We have supported national charities, including award-winning Sal’s Shoes (pre-loved footwear donations) and Sea-Changers (a marine conservation charity), helping them improve visibility and unlock new funding opportunities.

So far, in 2026, interest in the fund has skyrocketed. This year we’ve received 251 applications from across the UK, that’s a 151% increase on the previous year! That demand shows how many charities recognise the value of professional communications support but struggle to access it. Ultimately, the Good Business Fund demonstrates what can happen when communications expertise is used deliberately for social good.

In Summary

For us, success isn’t just about creative excellence. It’s about outcomes: communities supported, opportunities created and lives improved.

Communications work can sometimes feel intangible, but the results of The Good Business Fund tell a clear story. Tens of thousands of pounds worth of expertise redirected to social good. These numbers matter because they represent real change. Communities become stronger when charities succeed, and we’re committed to that vision of making creative work for good.
